Funds
Raised, and More Than 3,000 Books Collected, for Spread the
Word Nevada by Local Restaurants
August
28, 2010 – Joe's Crab Shack and Zaba's Mexican Grill
hosted a "Back-to-School Book Drive Extravaganza"
in honor of Spread
the Word Nevada,
including a two-day event at the Las Vegas restaurants.
A
book drive ran Aug. 6-20 at all area Joe's Crab Shack and
Zaba's Mexican Grill locations, culminating in a lively public
event on Aug. 21-22, 2010.
More
than 3,000 books were collected for Spread
the Word Nevada,
and more than $4,000 was donated. The books will be distributed
to children throughout the Clark County School District.
The
two-day event at the Grand Canyon Flamingo Centre featured
an evening of live music from various recording artists, a
live auction emceed by longtime sports and news anchor Ron
Futrell, and live broadcasts by Mix 94.1.

The
following day's event included BMX and skateboarding demos,
activities for children, including face painting, arts and
crafts, balloon artists and raffles.
A
highlight of the day was an appearance by pro BMX rider Ricardo
Laguna (below).
And
friends!
The
live auction and raffles, as well as a portion of sales at
the two restaurants, resulted in thousands of dollars being
donated to promote children's literacy in Nevada.
Spread
the Word Nevada
is honored and thankful to have been the recipient of such

Grill, as well as our community.
