MGM Mirage Voice Foundation Awards $25,000 Grant to Kids to Kids to Continue "Breakfast With Books" Program

August 11 , 2008 - Spread the Word Nevada: Kids to Kids is the recipient of a $25,000 grant awarded by the MGM Mirage Community Voice Council.

The grant will allow Spread the Word Nevada to continue the "Breakfast With Books" program serving the at-risk children and their families in Southern Nevada and the Clark County School District.

During the academic school year, 16 elementary schools benefit from the breakfast and book distribution.

Each month, a book is read by a Kids to Kids facilitator to an assembly of students and their families, followed by breakfast, a take-home activity and a book distribution where each participant is allowed to take home a book of their choice.

The MGM Mirage Voice Foundation grant will allow the "Breakfast With Books" program to serve 11,000 students and their families.

Lisa Habighorst, Executive Director of Spread the Word Nevada, expressed her appreciation for the generous grant. She stated, "The students at the 16 adopted elementary schools will be able to continue to benefit from the 'Breakfast With Books' program for another school year. Breakfast will help feed the students' minds and bodies for a productive school day and monthly book distributions will nurture their imagination and reading skills.

"All this is made possible only because of the ongoing generosity of the MGM Mirage Voice Foundation, which has supported the 'Breakfast With Books' program for the past three years."
