Spread the Word Nevada Receives Grant from MGM Resorts Foundation

August 4, 2010 - Spread the Word Nevada is pleased to accept a $12,250 grant from the MGM Resorts Foundation.

The grant will assist the Breakfast with Books program at the 21 elementary schools in the Clark County School District adopted by Spread the Word Nevada.

The Breakfast with Books program is a family literacy event created to encourage reading and increase literacy. Once a month, students and family members from each adopted school attend an assembly for a book reading and discussion. The event also includes a free breakfast snack and book distribution.

Last year (2009), 127 Breakfast with Books programs were held with a total of 18,317 participants.

MGM Resorts Foundation has been a Spread the Word Nevada supporter since 2005.

"Community partners like MGM Resorts Foundation have been the cornerstone of Spread the Word Nevada's success," said Lisa Habighorst, Executive Director of Spread the Word Nevada. "The generosity of their employees and support of our services will help us continue the family literacy outreach through Breakfast with Books and bring more books into the homes of the families we have the honor of serving."
