Book Drives During Nevada Reading Week Bring in More Than 28,000 Books for Kids to Kids

Mar. 22, 2006 - During Nevada Reading Week, Las Vegas schools went the extra mile by holding book drives around the city to benefit Kids to Kids. In total, more than 28,000 books were donated.

Nevada Reading Week took place February 27 through March 3. Nevada Reading Week was created in 1987 by the Nevada State Department of Education to promote literacy and to encourage reading among Nevada students.

A breakdown of the participating schools and the books donated is below:

Bilbray Elementary School - 2,875

Richard Bryan Elementary School - 3,972

Cheyenne High School - 626

Darnell Elementary School - 4,401

Dooley Elementary School - 521

Fertitta Middle School - 787

Foothills Montessori - 151

Garside Middle School - 450

Goolsby Elementary School - 2,618

Goynes Elementary School - 2,072

Heckethorne Elementary School - 2,232

Kahre Elementary School - 650

M.P. King Elementary School - number unavailable

Newton Elementary School - 701

Piggott Elementary School - 2,053

Schofield Middle School - 3,451

The total number of books donated was an impressive 28,282.
