Kids
to Kids is celebrating six years of giving the
gift of reading in the form of books for the valley's area
children, as well as helping literacy causes throughout Nevada.

The
Children's Literacy Festival featured games for children that
integrated books as the central theme. Such games include
Go Fish, inspired by the theme of the book, "The Rainbow
Fish," a milk bottle tossing contest, representing the
book, "Looks Like Spilled Milk" and a book walk.
Readings
by authors were scheduled throughout the day from such notables
as Ruth Devlin, who authored "Desert Seasons," Frank
Fiorello, a children's author who wrote "When I Read,"
and local talents including NBC Channel 3's Maria Silva, Miss
Nevada Mistie Williams and Miss Teen Nevada Megan Franco.
Participants
at the celebration enjoyed free food and refreshments from
hot dog and lemonade stands while children visited the Festival's
interactive arts and crafts booths. At these booths, volunteers
were on hand to help children create bookmarks and butterflies
and to teach them how to make a paper pizza from materials
donated by Pizza Hut.
A
key part of the event schedule included the opportunity for
parents to tour the model homes of Providence, while their
children were entertained by storytellers.
Kids
to Kids' sixth birthday celebration also marked
the conclusion of the organization's annual Pennies
for Pages Read-a-Thon. Approximately 12,000 young people,
all of whom are at-risk students, participate in the program,
which encourages donations for each page of a book a child
reads.
Kids
to Kids' mission of spreading the joy of reading
throughout the community parallels Providence's theme of celebrating
Americana through the literary legacy of the country's greatest
writers.
Focus
Property Group, master planner of Providence, seeks to create
community outreach programs within each of its master plans
that address a social cause within the community. Providence
is focusing its community outreach efforts in the area of
literacy and has formed a partnership with Kids
to Kids.
Providence's
long-standing relationship with Kids
to Kids will ensure that numerous activities are
held annually that help build a strong community that values
reading and creativity. The community's parks ultimately will
play host to storytelling festivals, writers workshops,
cowboy poetry festivals, chataquas and much more.

In
keeping with Focus Property Group's philosophy of creating
new communities with a sense of depth and character, Providence
revels in the small town traditions of the American Dream,
and celebrates the optimism of American frontiers and the
American West. In the community's parks and public spaces,
Providence will celebrate the diversity of American voices
that inspire and reflect the character and genius that is
America.
