Spread
the Word Nevada and Partner Engelstad Family Foundation Bring
New Possibilities to 20th School
Spread
the Word Nevada brought the successful Kids to
Kids literacy program to its 20th school, Ruby Thomas Elementary
School, on Apr. 26, 2010.
The
launch of the literacy program at the school was marked by
lively assemblies featuring presentations by Spread
the Word Nevada Executive Director Lisa Habighorst
and founder Laurie Hartig.
Children
also got to watch as school staff and community volunteers
presented a skit illustrating the power of community.

their imaginations.

This
special school adoption was made possible through a partnership
between the Engelstad Family Foundation and Spread
the Word Nevada, and results in 840 new children
being served by the program.

Kris
Engelstad McGarry (pictured below), co-trustee of the Engelstad
Family Foundation, was in attendance and assisted children
in choosing the five books they received to take home and
begin home libraries.
Remarkably,
for many of the children, these were the first books they've
ever owned.

Time
to distribute the books! This is the moment at the heart of
Spread the Word Nevada's mission.

Spread
the Word Nevada's programs come to the rescue of
children who experience economic and academic barriers, making
books accessible through their elementary schools.
About
20,000 children in Southern Nevada are served each month by
Spread the Word Nevada's initiatives.

Kids
to Kids, the flagship program of Spread
the Word Nevada, will continue to distribute books
to the students at Ruby Thomas Elementary on a monthly basis,
in addition to other literacy programs.

Thanks
to everyone who helped make the launch event such a success.
When you see the faces of these at-risk kids, there's no denying
the power of reading and books. You can help in the fight!
Donate or volunteer and help change lives, one book at a time.
