Kids
to Kids Adopts Seventeenth School: Elbert Edwards Elementary
School in North Las Vegas
December
19, 2008 - Kids to Kids,
the flagship program of Spread the
Word Nevada, recently adopted its seventeenth school:
Elbert Edwards Elementary School, in North Las Vegas.
In
partnership with The Venetian Foundation and Elbert Edwards
Elementary School, Kids to Kids
brought its grassroots literacy program to about 800 students.
Special
assemblies included presentations by Kids
to Kids Executive Director Lisa Habighorst and
a charming holiday story reading by Kids
to Kids Founder and Director of Programs Laurie
Hartig.
A
holiday-themed skit, featuring community partners, educators
and Kids to Kids staff,
illustrated the power of working together.
Fred
Licon (below), Director of Government Relations and Community
Development for Las Vegas Sands Corp. (owners of The Venetian
Resort Hotel Casino), was on hand to encourage the children
to read. The Venetian Foundation has been an unflagging supporter
of Kids to Kids for the
past six years.
Each
month, Kids to Kids will
distribute a different selection of new and gently-used books
for students to own, read and share.
To-date,
Kids to Kids has distributed
more than a million books to at-risk children throughout the
Las Vegas valley.
  
 
 
During
the launch of the Kids to Kids
program at a school, each child receives a canvas bag and
chooses five books to start a home library.
 
These
are just a few of the children whose lives have been affected
by the magic of reading.
The
children's response to the launch of the Kids
to Kids program in their school is simply electric!
